Multi-agency operation nabs 600 litres of ethanol in Busia
By David Nthua, July 20, 2026A multi-agency security team has recovered 600 litres of ethanol during an operation in Busia County.
One person of interest was apprehended during the raid conducted at a homestead in the Burumba area on Monday, July 20, 2026.
The person was placed in police custody and is assisting investigators. Processing is underway ahead of the arraignment.
Ethanol secured as exhibit
The National Police Service said the coordinated operation targeted the homestead following information received by security agencies.
“A multi-agency security team in Busia County successfully seized 600 litres of illicit ethanol and apprehended one suspect today, 20 July 2026, during a coordinated raid at a homestead in the Burumba area,” the NPS statement reads in part.
The service described the recovered ethanol as illicit. The entire consignment was secured as an exhibit for further investigation.
Police did not disclose how the ethanol was packaged. Its estimated value and intended destination were also not provided.
The identity of the person of interest was withheld. The National Police Service did not name the agencies that participated in the operation.
Investigations underway in Busia
Investigators are seeking to establish the source of the ethanol and its intended use.
“The suspect was placed in police custody and is assisting with further investigations pending arraignment, while the seized illicit ethanol has been secured as an exhibit,” the NPS stated.
The person of interest remains presumed innocent unless found guilty by a court.
The National Police Service said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to protect the public and disrupt unlawful activities.
“The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to serving and protecting the public and appeals for continued support through prompt reporting of any suspicious activity,” the statement added.
