Mudavadi says team appointment a boost to initiative

Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi yesterday welcomed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to gazette extension of  the BBI team’s term, saying it will offer the process a new lease of life. 

“The political environment was beginning to get unnecessarily charged with hostility about the BBI report and the process.

Now with the gazette notice out, we have an opportunity  to engage in sober dialogue,” he said in a statement.

Mudavadi said should the final report propose a referendum, the government should consider holding it together with the 2022 elections to save resources.

 Meanwhile, nine governors from Central region yesterday reiterated their support for the BBI report.

Led by Nyandarua’s Francis Kimemia, who is also the chair of Central Region Economic Bloc, the governors said the BBI would address the region’s economic challenges.

“Soon we are organising a Central region meeting with other like-minded leaders on the same,” he said.

Kimemia said their meeting would galvanise the region memorandum on the issues they want addressed.

“We are supporting the creation of a powerful Prime Minister, among addressing of other governance issues,” he said.

Central governors have been silent on the BBI issue, save for Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru who has voiced support for it.
