Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi has said its high time the youth are engaged in leadership in the country.

Mudavadi said the days when youth were being promised to be the leaders of tomorrow are long gone and this should be actualized.

He was speaking in Kiharu Murang’a County during the home coming ceremony for the party’s secretary general Simon Gikuru who hails from the area.

“We need to bring it young people on board so that we can mentor them to gain experience in leadership,” Mudavadi said.

He said vibrant young people are needed in every sector to help revamp the economy of the country and in return improve the livelihood of the people at the grass root level.

Mudavadi also said ANC is not a Luhya community party, but it has a national face and that’s why hen is using it to vie for presidency come next year.

“Any young man and woman in the country deserves to be given an opportunity to show their capability in every sector,” he said.

“We want young people to lead decent lives, to be able to take care of their families without too much struggle,” he added.

He said the party has set the precedent by appointing a young man to be the secretary general and urging other parties to follow suit.

“We have appointed Gikuru as the secretary general to be the face of the party, and we shall mentor him to become a seasoned leader,” Mudavadi said.

The ANC leader also wooed the residents to support for him, promising to bring a change in leadership and better policies to enhance people’s lives.

“I have declared my interest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, and I am seeking your support to help make this bid successful,” Mudavadi added.

Mudavadi’s presence in Mt Kenya coincides with a statement from Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, who said that any politician seeking the blessing of central Kenya must first seek out DP Ruto.
