Cabinet Secretary for Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Joe Mucheru has refuted claims that the government is planning to rig the August elections by manipulating dates in the IEBC servers.

Speaking during a meeting with church leaders in Murang’a, the CS affirmed that the only thing they provide to the electoral commission is internet connection and policies for regulations under the Communication Authority.

“I want to make it clear that we don’t get involved in the running of elections because there is the body mandated for that work,

“People have been claiming that I have access to the servers and I can decide who will vote where and who will go where but this is not true,” he stated.

He further reiterated that his team will only provide the necessary items required by the commission.

“We shall only provide whatever they have asked for and leave the rest to them” the CS reiterated.

His counterpart from the ministry of security and interior coordination Fred Matiang’i stated that the government was keen to ensure that the elections shall be free of chaos.

Speaking during the same meeting, Matiang’i noted that the security agents have been fully equipped and prepared to deal with anyone who will attempt to cause violence.

“We shall deal ruthlessly with anyone who will attempt to cause violence regardless of who they are,” he said.

The CS added that despite their affiliation to one side of the political party, he will do his duty as required by the law as a civil servant.

“There is a difference between affiliation and duty and I will carry out my mandate as the minister for security to ensure the country is peaceful,” he said.
