Politician Maina Njenga has claimed that the Mt. Kenya region is not receiving its rightful share of development from the Kenya Kwanza administration.

In an interview with People Daily, the former Mungiki leader said most projects started in the region by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta had stalled.

He also claimed that reforms aimed at streamlining the agriculture sector had not benefited farmers.
“While Mau Mau road has stalled, tea and coffee farmers are making losses over poor prices of their produce because there are still middlemen robbing them of their hard earned money,” said Njenga.

New beginning

He revealed that an event to unveil a new Mt Kenya kingpin will be held on December 31. The event, he said, will herald a new beginning for the region.

“Our meeting will be a platform for all leaders to give their views on how we can be united for the interest of development of our region,” said Njenga.

He said all leaders from the region had been invited to the meeting which, he said, will be graced by Uhuru.

“We are going to invite everybody, regardless of their political affiliation. It is our time to stand together,” he said.

Njenga also said the region stands to benefit if its leaders consult one another on matters of development.

“Leaders must speak with one voice if meaningful development is to be realized for our region. It is not in order to chest thump or feel superior,” said Njenga.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said he is not Interested in the contest for position of Mt. Kenya kingpin.

“I assist the President in running the country. My day starts at 5am and ends at midnight. I have no time for that kingship nonsense,” he said.
