MPs, latest to join ‘Jerusalema’ challenge with near comical performance

Members of Parliament (MPs) were the latest group to join in the new Jerusalema craze that has taken over the country by storm after they were spotted shooting their own version of the dance days after they concluded rehearsals.

The recording of the song was done outside the National Assembly office of Majority leader Amos Kimunya. 

Yesterday, speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi led the legislators in putting their best foot forward for the now-global challenge. 

Muturi said the challenge would showcase the work done by Parliament and show solidarity with those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and that it was necessary for the legislators to be part of a movement calling for diversity in times of distress. 

Some of the legislators present during the filming were  Kimunya, John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), John Mbadi (Suba South) Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), Rosa Buyu (Kisumu Woman Rep), Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga) and David Sankok (Nominated). 

But even as the MPs took their time to rehearse on the moves, their output could only be described as comical, if not under par as there was a mix of all types of dances including twist, praise and shuffle; something completely different from what has been seen in other videos regarding the dance challenge.

On October 8, Kimunya said the MPs had been holding practice sessions in readiness for the filming. 

Apart National Assembly members, senators too had their caucus led by Murang’a Senator and Senate Majority Chief Whip Irungu Kang’ata and are readying themselves to shoot their own version of the Jerusalema Challenge.

The activity by Kang’ata and team is scheduled for this Saturday at the new Clinton Hotel in Kikuyu, Thogoto Township in Kiambu county.

“The main aim of the event is to unite people and revive the entertainment industry in the area and the entire Kiambu.

And nothing has the power to do that well than music,” a close confidant of Kang’ata said on phone.
