Irate Boda Boda operators who on Wednesday tried to set a blaze Kapenguria legislator Samuel Moroto’s vehicle were dispersed by anti-riot police in Kitale after Kitale municipality Boda Boda chairman David Magero was knocked down and killed .

The chairman’s motorcycle was involved in a head- on collision with the law maker’s high end Toyota Prado at the St. Josephs’ junction.

The man who was behind the wheel of the MPs vehicle was coming to Kitale Town from Kitale Airstrip and it is believed he is not the official driver of the MP.

The MP was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

The Boda Boda chairman died on the spot while the ride of his motocycle sustained a broken leg with other minor injuries and has been admitted to Kitale county referral hospital.

Magero who was in a convoy of hundreds of other boda boda operators were going for the burial of their member whose burial was taking place in Tulwet village in Kiminini sub county when the accident occurred.

The boda boda riders ran berserk upon realizing that their chairman had died and they immediately started beating up the driver of the MP’s car setting the car’s seats on fire with the aim of torching the whole of it.

Trans Nzoia county police commander Fredrick Ochieng confirmed the incident and asked the boda boda riders and other members of the public not to take law into their own hands.

“Members of the public must refrain from taking law into their own hands when such incidents take place. We are advising them to be calm as police handle this issue since taking law into their own hands does not solve any problem,” he said.

The body of the deceased was taken to Cherangany  Nursing Home Mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
