MP Kiunjuri urges Mt Kenya region to shun divisive politics to access development
Laikipia East Member of Parliament (MP) Mwangi Kiunjuri has asked the Mount Kenya region to shun divisive politics.
Addressing a section of the residents in Tigithi Ward, the MP stated that the region was missing out on goodies from President William Ruto due to retrogressive politics that involved embarrassing the first in command.
He explained that the continuous habit of bashing the president due to built resentment has made him not want to contribute to the region’s development.
The MP noted that other regions, including Nyanza, have successfully developed due to their welcoming energy towards the Head of State whenever he visits.
“Sisi watu wa mlima wakati tunapigia rais nduru, akienda Taita Taveta anapigiwa vigele gele anaacha mali hapo, sisi tukipiga nduru wengine nduru yao ni kuitisha maendeleo. Rais akiingia Kisumu, wajaluo wanapiga shangwe na vigele gele anaacha milioni moja…sisi anafika hapa anapigwa kelele haachi kitu. sasa jameni na vile tulichunga ng’ombe, tukalima shamba, tutaacha wengine wavune? sisi ni wajinga kiasi hio?” he posed.
Loosely translates to;
“Our work as Mt Kenya region is to heckle the president and resent him whenever he visits, yet whenever he visits other regions such as Taita Taveta, the locals cheer him and appeal for development. When the president visits Kisumu, Luos celebrate him and he hands out money for development..when he he gets here we shout at him and therefore he leaves nothing. We took care of the cow and tilled the farm, will we let others enjoy our harvest?”
The MP further encouraged the Mt Kenya region to emulate the other aforementioned regions to secure developmental projects.
He also urged the region to allow the government to take on their duties and wait for 2027 to judge if the ruling regime fulfilled its promises.
The lawmaker also asked the region to use their area leaders to push for the implementation of development in their regions for the remaining term.
