MP Kamket: Ruto made the right choice by appointing Murkomen as Interior CS
By Mabonga Makhanu, January 4, 2026Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket has stated that President William Ruto made the right decision by appointing Kipchumba Murkomen as the Interior Cabinet Secretary.
Speaking during a public forum, Kamket praised the president for entrusting the sensitive security docket to Murkomen, noting that leaders from the region had earlier told him that the role would either build or break him.
According to Kamket, Murkomen has proven equal to the task and has delivered commendably, particularly in addressing insecurity in the region.
He said residents appreciate that the president appointed one of their own, someone who understands the local challenges and has demonstrated commitment to resolving them.

Kamket singled out the improved security situation in Kerio Valley, saying the region has enjoyed peace, which has allowed communities to coexist, interact, intermarry, and conduct business freely.
“Vile mheshimiwa makilap amesema hapa, umetupatia kijana wetu murkomen, na tukamwambia hii ni either ikujenge ama ikumalize. I think, Mheshimiwa Raisi, you made the right decision ya kupatia Mheshimiwa Murkomen hii kazi ya security,” he said.
“Na sisi wakazi wa eneo hii tumepatia kijana yetu ambaye anatuelewa; he understands our problems, and he has delivered successfully. Tunashukuru sana mheshimiwa Murkomen kwa kazi umefanya.”
The legislator also raised concern over a damaged bridge near the Kerio River, which links West Pokot and Tiaty.
He noted that when the river floods, the bridge is at risk of being swept away, disrupting movement between the two areas.
Kamket said engineers had estimated the cost of repairing or reconstructing the bridge at about Ksh300 million and appealed to the government to act on the matter.
“Na kwa sababu tumepata amani, especially kwa eneo hii ya Kerio, tuko na mto ambaye inatumbua nim to wa maana sana inaitwa Kerio. Tungependa hawa wananchi wakutane wasemezane, waoane, waishi pamojawafanye biashara. Pamoja, lakini hii river ikijaa kunakuwa na shida. Hii Daraja karibu inaenda, imebaki kidogo, na hio ndio Daraja inakutanisha West Pokot na Tiaty. Nimeuliza engineers estimates, and wanasema inafika karibu ksh300 million. Sema tu jambo alafu ifanyike,” Kamket stated.
Ruto’s take on banditry
His remarks come days after President Ruto, while speaking during the Kimalel Goat Auction in Baringo County, acknowledged the prevailing peace in Kerio Valley.

The president noted that when he assumed office in 2022, only 2,000 goats were brought to the annual auction.
This number rose to 5,000 the following year, nearly 6,000 in 2024, and reached 9,000 goats in 2025.
President Ruto attributed the steady increase to the government’s efforts in restoring peace and silencing illegal guns in the region. He said that with banditry and cattle rustling significantly reduced, farmers are now able to rear livestock without fear.
He further warned individuals still holding illegal firearms to surrender them to the relevant authorities, cautioning that the government would take action against those who fail to comply.
