MP Alice Wahome wants Speaker Muturi to resign over his coronation as Mt Kenya spokesperson

Kandara Mp Alice Wahome now wants Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi to resign from his position after being coronated as the spokesman for Mt. Kenya region.

Wahome argues that being made the spokesman contradicts his role as the speaker of the National Assembly and that he should choose one.

“The speaker cannot seclude himself to be the spokesperson for the Mt. Kenya region as this will counter his role at the national level,” she said.

Speaking in Murang’a, Wahome said Muturi’s coronation was a political affair with hidden hands behind it.

She says the move is misguided and miscalculated adding that it is a political strategy that can backfire on the speaker.

” This is definitely going to affect his work because he will be compelled to serve the interests of the people who have put him there whereas the speaker should be neutral,” she said.

Further, she said there were no adequate consultations among the leaders and the people of the region to have Muturi bestowed as the spokesman.

“I never attended any forum in which we discussed such an issue and this only means it was planned by a few people who are pushing their own interests,” she said.

She said the region does not require a spokesman as President Uhuru Kenyatta who is the kingpin is able to represent his people well.
