There was confusion yesterday after the Azimio-One Kenya replaced jailed Sirisia MP John Waluke as member of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) with Likoni MP Mishi Mboko. But Jubilee Party, a member of the coalition, maintained Waluke was its choice.

Jubilee secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni told People Daily he had already written to Speaker Moses Wetang’ula notifying him of the party’s choice. “The Jubilee Party wishes to submit the name John Waluke MP for Sirisia to be a commissioner in the PSC.”

But yesterday, Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi (pictured) wrote another letter replacing Waluke with Mboko, thus giving his ODM party two slots out of the available three.

And in yet another misunderstanding within the Azimio Coalition, elections for the influential Public Investment Committee (PIC) and Commercial and Energy scheduled for today were postponed to November 10 to allow the Minority side to reorganize its membership.

The coalition leadership had agreed that the leadership of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) be given to ODM and Jubilee PIC. However, the minority leadership went against the deal and picked Pokot South MP David Pkosing.

Waluke, who is currently being held at the Industrial Remand Prison pending an appeal he has launched over his 67 years jail term, is listed together with Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni (ODM) and Mavoko MP Patrick Makau (Wiper).

In a letter signed by Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, Mboko and Makau will be the Azimio nominees for the two slots available to the minority party.

Appeal dismissed

Waluke and his business partner Grace Wakhungu were sent back to jail after the High Court dismissed their appeals saying they were properly convicted and the more than 40 years they are required to serve in jail is not excessive.

Meanwhile, President William Ruto’s UDA party has left out other affiliates in the Kenya Kwanza to hand over the four slots to his United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Amani National Congress  and Ford Kenya are the other Kenya Kwanza parties with elected members in Parliament.

In the National Assembly, UDA has 145 MPs, ANC has eight and Ford Kenya six.

The President’s party has picked Laikipia Senator John Kinyua, and Joyce Korir (Nominated) from the Senate and Faith Gitau (Nyandarua Woman Rep) and Mohamed Ali (Nyali) from the National Assembly.
