Petroleum and Mining Chief Administrative Secretary John Mosonik has finally declared his interest in running for the Bomet gubernatorial seat in the next General Election.

Mosonik who has been on a covert meet-the people tours across the county, broke his silence and announced that he will be resigning from his position before the end of the year to kick start his campaigns ahead of the August 2022 poll.

Last week, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati gave all civil servants aspiring for various elective seats until February 9, 2022 to resign.

The CAS now joins the long list of civil servants from across the country intending to vie for elective seats in the upcoming election.

Facing former governor

He will face off with current governor Hillary Barchok and Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader Isaac Ruto who has already declared his interest.

While speaking during a function at Bukunye in Bomet East on Monday, Mosonik said it now time for him to serve his people in another capacity since his track record has been proven.

“I have served the country since 2013 and it is now my time to come home and serve my people also so that when I am retiring I will be counting my achievements even here at home,” said the CAS.

He said his ability to deliver became evident on how he performed his duties when he was the Principal Secretary at the Roads Ministry where he endeavored to ensure 10,000km of roads spread across the country were tarmacked.

Hitting out at the current leaders, Mosonik claimed they have misused their opportunities by enriching themselves at the expense of the Kenyans.

He wondered how billions of money received annually at the county were being spent on yet there is little to smile about.

While calling on the residents to be keen when selecting leaders ahead of the next general election, Mosonik said the mistakes that have happened should not be repeated.
