Mosiria puts guardians on alert amid addictive substance usage among the youth
By Joel Masibo, September 6, 2025Chief Officer, Environment, Nairobi City County, Geoffrey Mosiria has called upon parents and guardians to be on high alert amid the rising cases of drug and substance abuse among the youth in the country.
Taking to his social media pages on Friday night, September 5, 2025, Mosiria warned that the youth are indulging in the use of drug substances identified as ‘whites’ or ‘blues’ that are being abused by young people, saying that when consumed, they cause severe hallucinations.
”This substance is highly addictive and extremely harmful. Once consumed, it can cause severe hallucinations, disorientation, and, in some cases, leave young people in a zombie-like state, depending on the quantity taken,” Mosiria said.
”I have personally come across many young people on our streets who are already affected by this drug. The situation is alarming, and if not addressed, we risk losing an entire generation. It is important to understand that this drug is restricted and is only meant for use under strict prescription by authorised medical professionals in mental health facilities. Its misuse poses a grave danger to the health and future of our youth.”
To mitigate the concern, Mosiria said authorities are working hand in hand to curb the threatening situation.
“We are working closely with the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) and other relevant agencies to ensure this matter is addressed firmly and decisively,” he added.
“I therefore appeal to all parents and guardians: Monitor your children closely and be alert to sudden changes in their behaviour and seek immediate medical attention if you notice signs such as hallucinations or abnormal conduct. Let us all remain vigilant and work together to protect our children and safeguard the future of our generation.”
Insecurity in Nairobi CBD
Meanwhile, Mosiria has also warned criminal gangs terrorising city residents in the guise of content creation. Taking to his X account on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Mosiria confirmed receiving reports from city residents raising alarm over rising insecurity in the Central Business District (CBD).
Mosiria stated that organised gangs are targeting unsuspecting members of the public, especially during weekends, making off with valuables.
“As Chief Officer of Environment, I recognise that a clean, well-managed city is a safer city. Our enforcement team, working closely with the National Police Service, continues operations to remove these individuals from our streets and ensure public spaces remain safe and hygienic. Security and environmental operations are underway, and no resident should live in fear,” he added.
