More Covid-19 cases, fatalities registered

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 94,500 after 349 more people tested positive from some 5,025 samples conducted in the last 24 hours.

In a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that six more patients succumbed to the disease therefore bringing the number of fatalities to 1, 639.

“Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved ones,” he said.

The CS said that 831 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities across the country adding that 5, 834 others are under the Home Based Care programme. 

Only asymptomatic patients with no known coexisting medical condition are allowed to recuperate at home.

“Fifty-two patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 25 of whom are on ventilator support and 24 on supplemetal oxygen… three are on observation,” he said.

Another 28 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of which 23 are in general wards, he said, adding that five other patients are in the High Dependency Unit (ICU).

Nairobi, which contributes more than half of the national caseload, leads with 156 new cases followed by Nyeri (34), Kirinyaga (30), Meru (27), Uasin Gishu (25), Mombasa (17), Kiambu (15) and Busia (13) among others.
