The government has declared Monday, March 31, 2025, a public holiday to celebrate Idd-ul-Fitr.

In a gazette notice dated Friday, March 28, 2025, Interior Cabinet Secretary declared the holiday, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan for the Muslim calendar.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Pablic Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Monday, the 31st March, 2025, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr
Dated the 28th March, 2025,” Murkomen declared.

The holiday falls on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar, which does not fall on the same day in the Gregorian calendar, since it depends on the sighting of the new moon by Islamic authorities.

According to Islamic beliefs, the celebration was started by Prophet Muhammad in Medina after he migrated from Mecca.
