By , February 28, 2024

A Senate committee has put on the spot the Mombasa County government for the disappearance of Sh54 million disbursed from one of the three Funds operated by the administration just before the August 2022 election.

This even as it emerged that the Sh54 million from the Mombasa County Consolidated Revolving Fund could have been disbursed to individuals or groups without any loan agreement or security to guarantee that the loan is repaid.

The three Funds include the County Alcoholic Control Fund, County Elimu Fund and County Consolidated Revolving Fund. In addition, the Controller of Budget (CoB) also fingered the county government for continuously failing to submit full reports as well as financial statements on its established funds every quarter as is required by law.

Auditor General Nancy Gathungu in her latest report on the various funds, established that the county government lacks and enabling legislation to regulate the County Alcoholics Drinks Control Fund and irregular remittances to the County Revenue Fund.
