MOH rolls out training for community health assistants, promoters in Vihiga

By , June 6, 2024

The Ministry of Health has introduced an improved training program for community health assistants and community health promoters in Kakamega and Vihiga counties.

This initiative aims to elevate the standards of health delivery in these regions, with anticipated positive impacts on both the social and economic sectors.

CHPs role

According to Judith Nyongesa, the Kakamega County Community Health Services Coordinator, the program will play a key role in optimizing the delivery of essential health services at the grassroots level.

The exercise led by the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards through the Division of Community Health, is targeting a total of 12,090 Community Health Promoters (CHP) who have not yet received the required basic module training.

This landmark program has been praised for its efforts to provide quality and affordable healthcare while engaging citizens in care decisions.

The CHPs will be trained on the community scorecard, a citizen-driven accountability approach for assessing, planning, monitoring, and evaluating public services. The program received a significant boost earlier this year when the government allocated Ksh3 billion to support its operations.
