Ministry of Health launches JALI WhatsApp chatbot to provide verified Ebola information

By , June 6, 2026

The Ministry of Health has introduced a new WhatsApp-based chatbot known as JALI, aimed at providing Kenyans with trusted and verified information about Ebola virus disease.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Health (MOH) posted on the X handle by the principal secretary in the ministry, Mary Muthoni, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, the initiative is designed to strengthen public awareness and counter misinformation by giving citizens direct access to official health guidance through a platform that is widely used across the country.

Through the service, members of the public can interact with the chatbot by saving the number 0700 719 719 on their phones and initiating a conversation on WhatsApp.

“Worried About Ebola? JALI Has the Answers! Stay safe and informed with trusted health guidance from the Ministry of Health. Chat with JALI on WhatsApp (0700 719 719) to access verified Ebola information anytime, anywhere,” the MOH statement stated.

Procedure for using JALI chatbot

Users are required to type “Hello” to begin, after which they are guided through a short process that includes agreeing to terms and conditions, selecting basic demographic details such as age and gender, and then requesting information by typing the keyword “Ebola”.

Once this is done, the chatbot provides verified details on the disease, including prevention measures and general public health advice.

The ministry has emphasised that the platform is intended to offer round-the-clock access to reliable information, helping to reduce fear and confusion, especially during periods of heightened concern about infectious diseases.

In addition to educational content, the chatbot is also expected to serve as a tool for ongoing public health communication, offering tips and resources that promote safety and preparedness.

Alongside the WhatsApp service, the Ministry has maintained dedicated hotline numbers for urgent enquiries and reporting suspected cases, reinforcing its multi-channel approach to disease response. These include toll-free and mobile contacts that allow citizens to reach health officials directly when necessary.

Supported by various health and humanitarian partners, the JALI initiative reflects a broader shift towards digital health communication in Kenya, where technology is increasingly being used to improve access to critical information.

The Ministry has urged the public to rely only on official channels for updates and guidance, underscoring the importance of accurate information in managing public health risks.
