Millie Odhiambo: No wrong in Wamuchomba’s association with Ichung’wah family

By , September 18, 2025

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has come out to defend her Githunguri counterpart, Gathoni Wamuchomba, from an ongoing onslaught by netizens after she visited National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah’s family to condole with them following the death of their father.

This act of compassion was misinterpreted by some Kenyans as Wamuchomba being a government mole in the opposition after images surfaced of her warmly embracing Ichung’wah despite them being on opposite sides of the political divide.

In a statement posted on her social media handles on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Millie defended Wamuchomba, stating that there was nothing wrong with visiting and condoling with Ichung’wah’s family during their moment of grief.

Millie emphasised that politics should not be about hatred or enmity. She noted that when a calamity befalls a leader, even one with whom there are political differences, it is only humane to comfort them.

She cited her own political relationship with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying that despite not subscribing to his politics, she would still show up to mourn and comfort him if he were bereaved.

“Politics is not about hatred. It’s about competition. Even though Wamunyoro is on the other side of the political divide, should he be bereaved, as a normal human being, I will empathise with him,” Millie stated.

She went on to encourage Wamuchomba, who is currently under criticism, telling her not to make any excuses for condoling with Ichung’wah’s family. According to Millie, it was the right thing to do as a colleague, and political disagreements could always follow later.

“I stand with my sister Wamuchomba on this. Do not even create an excuse about only sending condolences to Ichung’wah’s sister. Be empathetic to your colleague Kimani Ichung’wah without apologies. Thereafter, disagree with him politically. That is called being humane,” she added.

Wamuchomba’s Reaction

This came after Wamuchomba dismissed claims that she betrayed her political allies by attending the burial of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah’s father.

The MP faced criticism after reports emerged that Ichung’wah had suggested, during the burial, that she was leaking information to the other political side.

In a detailed statement shared on her official social media account on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Wamuchomba refuted the allegations, terming them false and a form of political bullying.
