Lawyer Miguna Miguna has confirmed his application for the role of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In a statement shared via his official Twitter account, the firebrand lawyer expressed his interest in the seat that was declared vacant following the exit of Noordin Haji.

“For the avoidance of any doubt, YES, I have applied for The Director of Public Prosecutions. Cheers,” he wrote.

Haji exited the position after he was named the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) by President William Ruto.

Other applicants include city lawyer Danstan Omari, Cliff Ombeta, former Law Society of Kenya Nelson Havi, Katwa Kigen and Kioko Kilukumi.

Earlier, the Public Service Commission (PSC) advertised the position and asked interested candidates to apply on or before July 12, 2023.

Among the qualifications necessary include 10 years of experience as a superior court judge or a qualified magistrate.

Applicants who qualify for the interviews will be interviewed by a seven-member committee which includes COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Twalib Mbarak, Public Service Principal Secretary Mary Kimonye, Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, Richard Onsongo, Bush Obwocha, and Roseline Odede.
