Migori Youth FC will play their home matches at the newly refurbished Migori Green Stadium next season.

Migori Youth chairman Abdi Aziz says the decision is supported by the need to build a strong fan base at home.

Fans of the Betika National Super League side have been deprived of the opportunity to watch their beloved team play at home for two seasons due to lack of a standard stadium.

The NSL side returns to Migori Green Stadium after two seasons in which they played home matches at Awendo Green Stadium.

Migori Green Stadium was recently renovated to meet Football Kenya Federation standards and Aziz is optimistic the federation will give them a greenlight to host their NSL matches at the stadium.

“We want to thank Migori County for upgrading the facility to NSL-required standards.

The county through the sports department has done a wonderful job in improving the stadium to the required standards of the National Super League and we are optimistic the responsible wing will definitely hand the approval,” an optimistic Aziz told People Sport.

“We have big ambitions and one of them is playing in the top tier, Kenyan Premier League, and the biggest advantage is playing our home matches at Migori Green Stadium unlike last season where we had to move to Awendo Green Stadium. The fan base will provide a massive boost to the team in our undying quest to earn promotion.

And besides the fan base, it will also generate cash from the gate collection which will be used to fill the wide financial gaps the team is experiencing,” added Aziz.

Meanwhile, Aziz has hinted that the team will hit the ground running starting tomorrow (Thursday) in readiness for the 2020/2021 Betika National Super League season, adding that their main target this season is to challenge for KPL promotion.

Aziz is banking on their impressive performance last season where against all odds, they were fifth on the log before Covid-19 pandemic caused a stoppage of the league and the season.
