Migori Youth pip Mully Children’s Family in Betika Super League
Migori Youth FC secured their first win in the Betika National Super League this season thanks to a laboured 1-0 win over Mully Children’s Family FC in a mid-week clash at Migori Green Stadium.
Pablo Orwe scored the priceless goal just two minutes into the match, Migori’s first goal at home this season as they played at their new base, Migori Green Stadium for the first time.
Prior to yesterday’s duel, the hosts had lost one match to Kisumu All Stars and shared the spoils in their second match with Sony Sugar to leave them 14th in the table standings with a single point.
Mully Children’s who are making a debut in the league, had lost 3-0 to Kenya Police in their opening match and had hoped to get their first points in the league but hosts caught them unaware from a corner kick early in the match with Orwe tapping in the ball from close range and their efforts to equalise went begging despite playing a beautiful game in the second half, as the home side thwarted all their scoring chances.
The win moves Migori up to 12th on four points, tied on similar points and goal difference with 10th and 11th placed Sony Sugar and APs Bomet, while Mully remain rooted on the league table standings with no points after playing two matches.
Migori showed good resilience to hold on to their slender lead and secure the maximum points, particularly before a tough-looking run of fixtures with games against Silibwet (at home), Kenya Police (away) and Kibera Black Stars (at home) up next and club chairman Abdi Aziz, say it’s the start of their quest to challenge for promotion to the premier league.
“We are delighted with the win and can only say this is a starting point. It’s nice to get this victory to calm down a bit and motivates our players to work for more victories because when you get a win, the morale natural rises.
We want to build up from here though we know there’s lots of work to be done,” said Aziz.
