Police say there has been a reemergence of armed criminal groups during the campaign period. The gangs harass and rob members of the public.

Kiambu County Police Commander Muchangi Kioi told journalists that officers staged a sting operation and managed to arrest the suspects and recovered firearms.

“The suspects were found with 30 stolen cooking gas cylinders, nine lap tops, nine television sets and six hoofers,” Kioi added.

He said they also arrested a woman who was an accomplice of the gang members. According to the police, the gang members would have some of the money stolen from their victims sent to her.

The police commander revealed that three more members of the gang were arrested in West Pokot while transporting stolen items and would be transferred back to Kiambu to be processed for prosecution.

Police are hunting for more suspects, he said.

Kioi said a special unit of officers would be deployed in Gakoe in Gatundu North where a woman was recently killed, an M-Pesa shop robbed and a car stolen.
