Medical practitioners schedules allow service access
By George Kebaso, December 24, 2019Peter Masinde, a ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist at Kenyatta National Hospital, has a busy Christmas schedule at work while millions of Kenyans will be making merry.
“Some people have gone home, and we couldn’t all go. Some of us are left to cover areas that mainly need emergency services,” he told People Daily yesterday.
Masinde’s schedule is in contrast with that of Peris Achieng’, a nurse at Some dispensary in Migori county, who took a break last week until this Friday.
Achieng’ is at home in Nyamila village, Siaya county, where she had her traditional marriage on Saturday.
“I have a 10-hour work schedule from Monday to Friday apart from the weekend, but I’m occasionally called in for emergencies. So these few days have been a great relief for me,” she said.
Dr Kamau Koigi, a reproductive health specialist at the Nairobi Hospital is busy at the facility this Christmas, but will take a break during the New Year festivities.
The National Cancer Institute acting chief executive Dr Alfred Karango said being in a policy office, he will take a break like any other government official.
Cancer Survivors Association (CSA) chairperson Prisca Wanjiru said survivors will enjoy the festivities like everybody else, but urged Kenyans to offer comfort to those with chronic side effects.
