Matuu woman kills husband, turns knife in suicide attempt

A 21- year – old woman in Matuu on Wednesday stabbed her husband to death and turned the kitchen knife on herself in an attempt to die by suicide.

Juny Nthenya allegedly stabbed her husband Frederick Masila who was sleeping at his rental house in Matuu at around 0300hrs, according to a police report.

The woman who was rescued and treated at Matuu Level 4 hospital before being held in police custody said she was ‘dissapointed’ by her husband.

A neighbour,Fredrick Masila reported that at around 0300hrs he was sleeping at his rental house within Matuu township about one kilometre away from the police station when he heard screams from his neighbors and together with other neighbors they went to check what was happening where they found one Juny Nthenya Kyalo, aged 21 years crying while holding her husband Rodney Mwasia, aged 23 years whose clothes were soaked in blood.

The neighbors inquired from the said Juny Nthenya what had happened and she informed them that her husband had dissapointed her and she had stabbed him at the left side of the chest with a kitchen knife after which she also went ahead and stabbed herself on the left side of the chest.

Police officers from Matuu Police station and DCI Yatta rushed to the scene and found the body of the deceased in a pool of blood. The suspect was also bleeding from the chest due to the stab wound she inflicted on herself.

A kitchen knife with blood stains was recovered from the scene and kept as exhibit. The suspect was escorted to Matuu Level level IV hospital where she was treated and discharged and later escorted to Matuu Police station.

The body of the deceased was placed at Matuu level 4 hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
