Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has declared Friday, July 31, a public holiday in celebration of Idd-ul-Azha.

“Friday, 31st July, 2020 has been designated as a Public Holiday of General Observance throughout the territory of the Republic of Kenya in celebration of Idd-ul-Azha,” said CS Matiang’i in a Gazette notice published on Tuesday.

Idd-ul-Azha festival is celebrated by Muslims as a commemoration of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice everything for God.

It falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth and final month in the Islamic calendar.

As the exact day is based on lunar sightings, the date may vary between countries.
