Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua finally free after paying Ksh12 million cash bail
Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has finally been released from police custody after paying Ksh12 million cash bail.
The MP’s freedom came a few hours after Anti-corruption court Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi released the MP on Ksh12m bail or Ksh25m bond.
When appearing in court, MP Rigathi denied charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property, money laundering, conflict of interest and conspiracy to defraud Nyeri County government Sh27 million.
The offences are alleged to have been committed in 2013 and 2020. In the case, Gachagua was charged alongside nine others who are not in court.
The MP has since denied the state allegations and termed his prosecution as politically instigated.
Shortly after his release, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro took to his social media handles to celebrate his freedom
“Free at last. Hustler Nation Remains strong. We are African and Africa is our Business,” he wrote.
Gachagua was arrested on Friday at his Nyeri Home and ferried to DCI headquarters where he spent the weekend.
