I’ll stay in Azimio despite outcome of Raila’s running mate interview – Martha Karua

By , May 10, 2022

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has said that she will not quit Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition even if she will not be named as Raila Odinga’s running mate.

Speaking in Nyeri where she was meeting grassroot leaders from the county, Karua said that no matter the outcome, she will not quit Azimio as she holds similar agendas as those of Raila.

“Even if I went for the interview, I don’t want to say that it is a must I be the deputy. When I was joining Azimio, I did not give any conditions. I joined and started campaigns immediately because I know Raila has the best intentions for the common mwananchi at heart,” Karua said.

Karua said that they share a common history with Raila spanning for many years starting from clamour for multi-party adding that he has no history of corruption.

“We should look and vote for leaders who are not tainted by a history full of corruption. Some of those seeking the country’s top seat have had a history of corruption and their fingers cannot resist touching public funds,” she said.

She challenged those opposed to Raila’s presidency to give a reason for the same instead of hurling abuses to discredit him.

However, former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando who is also vying for the Nyeri Senate seat on a Narc Kenya ticket said that he will not be associated with Azimio if Karua is not named as Raila’s running mate.

“I want to tell Raila Odinga if he will not nominate Karua as his running mate, he should forget going to the ballot but if he does, I Kabando wa Kabando son of a woman who no man can claim, I will print my posters and erect banners all over Nyeri bearing a photo of Raila Odinga, Karua and me,” he said.
