Naivasha rally

The World Rally Championship is set to kick off today Thursday, March 28, 2024, and will run until March 31, 2024.

The event promises fans around the globe a high-voltage competition backed with entertainment.

With an impressive lineup of 29 entries comprising top contenders from across the world, anticipation for the rally has reached a fever pitch.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Tuesday, March 26 announced several alternative routes for Kenyans seeking to access the venue of the World Rally Championship set to be held in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

KeNHA while announcing the alternative routes, vowed to tame any potential traffic snarl-up and assured Kenyans of a smooth flow of traffic.

Doctors' strike

Doctors' strike today enters day 15 as talks between the government and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) have failed to avert the industrial action.

Unions have vowed to continue with the strike until their pleas are addressed.

The doctors downed tools calling for the Health Ministry to honour the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) made in 2017.

Their grievances are; the delayed posting of interns, fair remuneration of interns, postgraduate training, employment of more doctors and comprehensive health coverage for medics.

The striking doctors have downplayed claims by the Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha that the Ministry does not have enough funds to cater to the medics’ demands.

Union leaders insist doctors will stay on strike for as long as it takes.

Meanwhile, patients seeking services in various public hospitals across the country continue to bear the brunt of the strike.

NTSA

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is carrying out an aggressive campaign to tame road carnage amid a rise in fatalities resulting from accidents in the country.

On Tuesday, March 26, NTSA arrested dozens of pedestrians for failing to use footbridges when crossing roads.

The arrested included pedestrians caught crossing roads without using available footbridges, walkaways and designated crossing points.

On Wednesday, March 27, NTSA impounded several vehicles and motorbikes in the ongoing nationwide crackdown.

The authority teamed up with the National Police Service to erect roadblocks on major highways in a multiagency operation that nabbed several traffic offenders.

It remains to be seen if the nationwide crackdown by NTSA will continue today and in subsequent days.
