Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today's happenings.
Weather
The Kenya Meteorological Department says rainfall is expected over areas in the South Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Coast in the next seven days.
However, North-eastern Kenya will continue experiencing sunny and dry conditions this weekend.
"From this weekend, rainfall is likely in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, Coast, and North-western regions. Meanwhile, North-eastern Kenya will experience sunny and dry conditions," the weatherman said.
Doctors' strike
The doctors' strike led by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) will clock its 11th day on Sunday, March 24. 2024.
The doctors downed tools 10 days ago demanding that the Ministry of Health honours the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) made in 2017.
Other grievances surrounding the strike are; the delayed posting of interns, fair remuneration of interns, postgraduate training, employment of more doctors and comprehensive health coverage for medics.
"There will be a union assembly on Monday and a fresh demonstration on Wednesday next week," KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah said while Speaking on Friday outside the Council of Governors (CoG) offices in Westlands.
Meetings between the Ministry and the doctors have failed to reach a solution, with the government side declaring the strike illegal while the doctors press on.
"Received a brief on the progress made in addressing the issues raised in the industrial action by the healthcare professionals. I noted the progress made but was concerned by the continued non-compliance with the Court Order by a section of the healthcare professionals. I call on them to return to work without further delay as the issues raised are addressed through the court-sanctioned mediation," the head of public service Felix Koskei stated.
International friendlies
At least matches remain to be played on Sunday, March 24, 2024 for the ongoing international friendlies.
San Marino will play against Saint Kitts and Nevis while Ethiopia will play against Lesotho.
Ecuador will play against Italy in the final match of the day at 11:00 pm.
At least 17 matches were played on Saturday, with Kenya beating Malawi 4-0 during their opening match in the Four-Nations tournament at Bingu Stadium.
In other matches, France lost to Germany 2-0, Brazil beat England 1-0 while Denmark drew with Switzerland 0-0.
