Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

Ramadhan

Today marks day two of the Muslim holy month of Ramadhan.

Millions of Muslims in Kenya and around the world are observing the holy month of Ramadan.

It is a month of fasting, reflection, community and family time

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It has a special significance in Islam.

It is during this month that Muslims believe the first verses of the Quran – Islam’s holy book – were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.

During this period, Muslims are encouraged to fast and to give to charity, to show kindness and patience and to strengthen their relationship with God.

Extra emphasis is placed on reciting the Quran.

In 2024, Ramadan is expected to last 30 days, with fasting starting on Monday 11 March and is predicted to end on Tuesday, April 9.

Blackout

Kenya Power announced planned power interruptions that will affect several parts of the country today.

In a statement, Kenya Power said the electricity interruptions will affect five counties.

The counties affected include; Nairobi, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Homa Bay and Kwale.

Parts of the capital will be in blackout from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The areas affected include; Karen County Club, Karen Road, Kibo Lane, Quarry Lane, DOD Karen and adjacent customers.
