Maraga blames parents for schools unrest

Former Chief Justice David Maraga(pictured) has blamed parents for failing to offer proper guidance to their children leading to rising indiscipline cases witnessed in various schools in the country.

He said the rising criminal activities among teenagers in schools was an indicator that a majority of parents had left their responsibilities to the teachers, who already have too much to handle in their hands.

“Parents have gone missing, many children today do not have mother and father figures in their lives. These roles have been left to the teachers and the result are the arson cases we are witnessing countrywide,” he said.

Excess freedom

He spoke on Monday night at the Nakuru Players Theatre during the launch of The Winding Road, a novel by a Nakuru teacher Gichaba Nyantino. 

The former CJ noted that majority of the parents end their duties with payment of school fees adding that they are not actively involved in the holistic growth and development of their children.

Rift Valley Regional Director of Education Jared Obiero also blamed parents for giving excess freedom to their children while at home.
