Manyora explains why opposition made smart move in Mukhisa Kituyi’s appointment

By , September 8, 2025

Political analyst Herman Manyora has come out to defend Mukhisa Kituyi’s recent appointment to lead the Secretariat as well as serve as the United Opposition spokesperson.

While speaking on his channel on Monday, September 8, 2025, the professor outlined reasons why the former UNCTAD chair is most suitable to lead the Secretariat in the United Opposition.

He emphasised that there could not be a better person for the position than Mukhisa Kituyi. He brings seriousness, believability, credibility, and intellectual strength. He is well-connected, both locally and internationally, and he carries the kind of stature required to give weight to the United Opposition.

“There couldn’t be a better person for that job than Mukhisa Kituyi; he brings a measure of seriousness and believability, he is well connected, he is an international figure, he has international connections, he has the requisite credibility, he has the intellectual muscle, and that outfit called the United Opposition is going to need a man of that calibre,” Manyora stated.

According to Manyora, the opposition will need a leader of Mukhisa’s calibre to navigate sensitive and serious matters. For example, deciding who to back as a single presidential candidate is not a small task.

Developing a proper framework for such decisions requires someone with the strategic and intellectual ability that Mukhisa possesses.

Anyone who thinks the opposition could have done better in choosing another leader, he said, is simply daydreaming.

“because when they want to look around and handle very sensitive and serious issues, matters like who they back as a single candidate is not a small matter to develop a proper matrix; it requires people of the caliber of Mukhisa and anybody thinking they could have done better than Mukhisa, they are actually ydreaming.”

Mukhisa’s task

He further pointed out that there will be many other issues to address, including strategies to maximise the number of elective seats and handling by-elections in different regions. Such complex political tasks demand a sharp and experienced mind, and Mukhisa Kituyi fits that role.

“They are going to be a lot of issues. What are you going to do to maximise the number of elective seats you get? Look at the by-elections in different places. You need a brain that can handle that, and that is Mukhisa Kituyi.”

This development comes just days after DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala initially protested against Mukhisa’s selection but later softened his stance.
