The Spokesperson in the Office of the Fourth President, Kanze Dena, has dismissed claims made by the government that former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta has been provided with new vehicles and had her security detail reinstated.

Addressing the media on Monday, June 10, 2024, Dena clarified that Mama Ngina is currently utilizing three vehicles allocated to her during the tenures of Presidents Daniel Arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki.

Mama Ngina's vehicles

Contrary to Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura's claims, Dena stated that the current government has not provided Mama Ngina with any new vehicles.

Dena also noted that since July 2023, Mama Ngina has not had her security detail and drivers reinstated.

"There was an issue raised about Mama Ngina Kenyatta. In her capacity as the former First Lady and surviving spouse of the late President Jomo Kenyatta, she is entitled to benefits amounting to 50 per cent of her husband's pension," Dena stated.

"The three Range Rovers that Mama Ngina has in her possession were allocated to her by late Presidents Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki during their tenures and replaced accordingly every three years. The government spokesperson said that they gave her cars, but clearly, the government of the day has not provided her with any vehicles."

Dena further clarified; "On July 18, 2023, at 7:00 pm, all her drivers and security details were withdrawn from their residences via phone. The claims that the personnel were reinstated are false."

Mama Ngina's cards

The spokesperson revealed that the vehicles Mama Ngina has from previous administrations have not been serviced, and the fuel cards for these vehicles were withdrawn.

"Fuel cards for her vehicles were blocked and vehicle maintenance denied. She fuels and maintains these government vehicles herself, one of which has been unserviceable for the last year," she added.

Last month, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura detailed the retirement benefits paid to former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mama Ngina, stating that the government paid Uhuru a lump sum of Ksh48 million.
