Mama Ngina Kenyatta donates food
Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta yesterday made food donations worth Sh20 million to distributed to 12 children homes in Gatundu South, Kiambu County.
Daughter Nyokabi Kenyatta and former Kiambu Women Representative Ann Gathecha graced the occasion on behalf of the former first lady.
Nyokabi said the initiative from the First Lady was to cushion the vulnerable over effects of Covid-19.
Over 1,500 children, elderly and those living with disability will benefit from the assorted food stuff including 13 tonnes of Soya, seven tonnes of Uji mix, 950 litres of cooking oil, 750 kilos of Green Grams, 2.5 tonnes of rice, 1,500kg of beans and 100 bales of maize flour from Kabansora and Kapu Africa.
Gathecha called on unity and appealed for more donations from other well-wishers.
The former women representative warned that the virus was not a respecter of race, gender, status in the society or wealth of a person and urged Kenyans to work towards being safe from infections.
“Even as we embark to support our people, it is my plea that every Kenyan follows the government directives to the latter. We cannot afford to lose lives due to our ignorance,” said Gatheca.
Gatundu South DCC Stanley Kamande received the food rations for logistical purposes and distribution to the beneficiaries.
Kamande thanked the well-wishers for coming to the aid of neglected and sometimes abandoned children who live by the mercies of philanthropists.
“We are urging all well-wishers to donate their food items through the provincial administration to avoid overcrowding that could precipitate possible infections,” he said.
