Magistrate orders suspects in Sh72M bank heist to be taken to hospital

By , September 9, 2019

Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku has ordered suspects in Sh72 million bank heist to be taken to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for treatment.

This comes after the suspects’ lawyer Cliff Ombeta told the court on Monday that the suspects were tortured while in police custody.

“The detectives went into the suspects houses and destroyed and broke the ceiling, the toilet and destroyed mattresses,’ Ombeta told the court.

Magistrate Mutuku ruled that the allegations of torture were serious and the suspects deserved to be given attention.

The magistrate will give a substantive ruling whether to detain them for seven days tomorrow afternoon after they have received treatment.
