Maanzo says DCP expected to clinch majority seats in upcoming by-elections
By Mabonga Makhanu, September 23, 2025Makueni County Senator Dan Maanzo has expressed confidence in Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) participation in the upcoming by-elections, saying that it’s poised to win a majority of seats in the mini polls.
Watch: Gachagua to his allies: No direct nominations in DCP, all tickets must be contested.
While speaking during an interview on a local TV station on Tuesday, September 23, 2024, Maanzo, who is a member of the Wiper party, expressed confidence in DCP, saying that it stands a higher chance of winning the majority of seats in the by-elections, which are slated for November 27.

Maanzo went further to acknowledge that in areas where the ODM party enjoys a lot of support, such as Ugunja and Kasipul Kabondo, it will be strange for the Raila-led party candidate to lose.
He also took a swipe at the Senate, which will resume its normal sittings today after a month-long recess, saying that until the by-elections are completed, the houses will lack numbers since members will be out campaigning for their parties and preferred choices in the mini polls.
“Until these by-elections are done, I doubt if the houses will have any numbers. Different political parties have to go to the ground to make sure that they get these seats. We have a DCP with quite a number of seats,” Maanzo stated.
Upcoming by-elections
By-election campaigns have now entered top gear. The UDA held its party primaries over the weekend across the country, which saw supporters turning up in numbers to vote for the flagbearers who will be facing other candidates drawn from different parties in the November 27 minipolls.
In Malava, it was a hotly contested party nomination which saw the son of the late Malulu Injendi, who was seeking to replace his father, Ryan Injendi, being dwarfed by Kakamega County minority leader David Ndakwa, who won by a landslide.

Ryan later came out lamenting the betrayal from the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, stating that despite other top government officials deciding not to take sides in the party elections, people from his office were out in the constituency trying to influence the vote in Ndakwa’s favour.
Despite all these, he decided to remain in the party and agreed to support the winner.
The Gachagua-led party, on the other hand, is also working hard to campaign for its candidates who are participating in the upcoming by-elections.
The party agreed to cede ground for the DP party in the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election and agreed to support it to win the seat, but it has remained silent in Malava.
