Residents of Kwa Joho in Likoni, Mombasa, have stepped up their fight against crime by joining hands with police officers through a renewed community policing effort.

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, they turned out in large numbers for a security forum convened by the OCS of Inuka Police Station and the area Assistant Chief.

The meeting, which brought together members of existing community policing clusters, was described as a frank conversation where residents openly shared the challenges facing them. Night-time insecurity, especially burglaries, topped the list of concerns, with residents demanding urgent interventions.

According to the National Police Service, the forum placed special focus on the upcoming school holiday period. “Top of the agenda was the need to tighten security before, during, and after the school holiday period,” police said in a statement.

The police further noted that new measures were being explored to expand the reach of community policing within Likoni.

“The meeting also highlighted plans to strengthen existing community policing clusters and establish new ones to ensure no part of the area is left exposed,” the statement added.

Residents were urged to take a proactive role in keeping their community safe by cooperating fully with security officers. Police stressed that timely information from members of the public could make all the difference in tackling crime.

“Residents were urged to be open and share information promptly with security agencies to help combat insecurity, especially at night when burglary cases are most common,” the statement read.

The meeting ended on a unifying note, with both residents and officers pledging to work together as one community.

“The session ended with a renewed call for unity and vigilance, with participants pledging to work hand-in-hand with the police to safeguard their community and keep crime at bay,” NPS affirmed.

The National Police Service also used the forum to reaffirm its commitment to building stronger ties with communities across the country.

“The National Police Service reaffirms its resolute commitment to community policing, noting that such engagements are key to fostering trust and enhancing security partnerships,” the statement concluded.

For the residents of Kwa Joho, the forum was more than just a meeting; it was a reminder that lasting security depends not only on the presence of police officers but also on the active involvement of the community itself.
