Ledama Olekina urges caution ahead of 2027
By Mustafa Juma, July 26, 2025Narok County Senator Ledama Olekina has issued a cautionary statement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Taking to his official X account on the night of Saturday, July 26, 2025, Olekina urged Kenyans to approach the season with thoughtfulness and sobriety.
The outspoken senator has reminded citizens that while the choice remains theirs, every action—whether intended or not—has consequences.
“The choice is yours—make it wisely, but remember that every action has a reaction, whether intended or unintended… 2027 is just another election year, and life goes on,” the lawmaker stated.

The senator’s words come amid growing political mobilisation and early campaigning across the country, with various leaders already positioning themselves for both national and local seats.
His remarks seem to signal a call for maturity and long-term thinking, rather than knee-jerk political decisions driven by hype or tribal alliances.
While Olekina did not mention any specific individuals or parties, the timing of his statement suggests a broader appeal to both voters and leaders to avoid actions that could destabilise the country or sow unnecessary divisions.
ODM tensions
Olekina’s remarks come as some leaders, particularly those serving in President William Ruto’s government under the ODM-UDA agreement, continue to accuse the Orange party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna of overstepping, calling for his resignation.
This follows Sifuna’s explosive interview on a local TV channel, where the Nairobi Senator declared the ODM-UDA MoU “dead,” citing unfulfilled promises by the government and increased extrajudicial killings, including the controversial death of blogger Albert Ojwang.
Kaluma slams Sifuna
Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma is the latest to call for the immediate resignation of Sifuna from his roles as Secretary General of the ODM party and Senate Minority Leader, saying his continued stay is no longer tenable.
In a strongly worded statement shared via his official X account on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Kaluma claimed that Sifuna’s leadership had become divisive and counterproductive, especially in light of recent disagreements within the ODM party over the ongoing political realignments and the broad-based governance arrangement involving ODM and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“Sifuna’s continued stay as ODM Secretary General and as a leader of the Minority Party in the Senate is no longer tenable. The faster he leaves, the better for him!” Kaluma stated.
