Narok County Senator Ledama Olekina has cried foul after President William Ruto nominated ambassadors.

In a statement on Friday, August 15, 2025, Olekina lamented that people from his Maa community were not represented in the nomination to ambassadorial roles.

“Why is the Maa Nation consistently sidelined by the government, denying them ambassadorial roles? Are we not Kenyans or just pawns in a political game?

Unity rings hollow

The vocal senator went ahead to indicate that the absence of nominees drawn from the Maasai community in the list announced by Ruto was blatant exclusion at a time when the president is calling for unity.

“Unity sounds hollow when every appointment mocks our community—no respect, no reward, just blatant exclusion! Frank Kibelekenya was promised an ambassadorial appointment, but it seems he, too, will subscribe to view sasa, Olekina stated.

Ruto announced a new round of nominations and redeployments in Kenya’s Foreign Service, aimed at realigning the country’s diplomatic corps to enhance performance and service delivery.

In a statement on August 15, 2025, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed stated that the Executive Action is in line with the Administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and seeks to strengthen Kenya’s representation abroad.
