City lawyer Donald Kipkorir has told President William Ruto to reset his relationship with the people in order to run the country smoothly.

The flamboyant lawyer cited the case of the failed coup in Bolivia as he explained the importance of the president having people on his side and not the army. Ruto's government has come under heavy criticism following recent protests against the Finance Bill.

"This week in Bolivia, there was an attempted coup by a section of the army. They even entered the Presidential Palace to overthrow President Luis Arce. The coup attempt fizzled immediately, and hundreds of thousands of people marched to the palace to eject them.

"No shot was fired. No one was killed. Same time, President William Ruto had to call the army to protect him from his people. Many were killed in Kenya for peacefully demonstrating. A president must be protected by his people, not the army. Our President has to completely reset his relationship with the Republic," Kipkorir posted on X on Friday, June 28, 2024.

Ruto's options

In a separate statement, Kipkorir advised the Head of State on how to steer the country forward in the wake of violent protests led by the youth.

"The President has to bring back the country from the precipice to save his presidency and the country by dissolving the cabinet and reconstituting it by retaining a few and bringing in fresh ones. Anyone with a whiff of corruption and sudden riches can’t be part of it.

"Dissolve Nairobi City County; it is a den of thieves and robbers; replace the entire UDA parliamentary leadership. Current ones suffer from high hubris and arrogance," he added.

He continued to say that Ruto should impose true and genuine austerity measures and end corruption, among the many other options he pointed out.

"Courts can’t be acquitting public thieves all the time. Let a lifestyle audit be done on all public officers, all the way to the top.

"End tribalism. Let all public offices reflect the face of Kenya. Every tribe must have an equal chance to succeed in life. In Singapore, every tribe or race has a proportionate allocation to public offices and houses.

"Give the youth a seat at every decision-making table in the country. And genuine and honest youth. Not the ones we elected to be governors and MPs and turned out to be thieves," he continued.

To him, destiny has given Ruto the best opportunity to reset the country.
