Hospitals in Laikipia county are set to benefit from Ksh121 million oxygen infrastructure project being financed by Global Fund.

The hospitals to benefit first are those with highest volume consumption of oxygen, according to governor Joshua Irungu.

The high consumers were identified at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. The oxygen project is an initiative of Amref Africa Health and Laikipia is one of the 14 counties set to benefit.

Industrial and medical gases maker BOC Kenya has been contracted by Amref Africa Health to supply liquid oxygen tanks for installation in hospitals in the 14 counties through the project.

Irungu said his administration will facilitate the establishment of oxygen generating plants in four major hospitals in the county.

The hospitals include the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital, Rumuruti and Ndindika sub county hospitals.
