Details of Moses Kuria’s meeting with Ministry of Health leadership emerge
Senior Advisor from the Council of Economic Advisors at State House, Moses Kuria, on Friday, August 30, 2024, convened a meeting with the Ministry of Health leadership.
The meeting was attended by the Health Ministry Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa, Principal Secretary in charge of the State Department for Medical Services Harry Kimtai, CEO of the Council of Governors Mary Mwiti, and the leadership of the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
According to a statement shared by the ministry through social media, the Moses Kuria-led meeting centred on the rollout of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Programme.
The discussion focused on key areas that must be addressed to ensure a successful launch of UHC.
Conducting a comprehensive end-to-end pilot in a selected county within the next 14 days to ensure readiness for a broader implementation was one of the strategies that were discussed to ensure the programme succeeds.
“Universal Health Coverage remains a central pillar of the National Government, and President William Ruto is firmly committed to realizing this vision for the Kenyan people. In line with this commitment, the Senior Advisor from the Council of Economic Advisors at State House, Hon. Moses Kuria, convened a meeting with the Ministry of Health leadership.
“The meeting was attended by Health CS Deborah Barasa, Medical Services PS Harry Kimtai, CEO of the Council of Governors Mary Mwiti, and SHA leadership.
“The discussion centred on the rollout of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Programme, focusing on key areas that must be addressed to ensure a successful launch. One of the main strategies discussed was conducting a comprehensive end-to-end pilot in a selected county within the next 14 days to ensure readiness for a broader implementation,” the statement from the Ministry of Health reads.

Kuria on the meeting
Kuria in a statement shared via his official X account noted that all critical issues that the government needs to sort out for a successful rollout of UHC had been identified.
The former Public Service CS further stated that healthcare had been identified as one of the five key pillars of President William Ruto’s broad-based government.
Kuria on Ruto’s commitment
Kuria went ahead to say that President Ruto is fully committed to delivering on his social contract with Kenyans in this regard.
“Ahead of the official rollout of our Universal Health Coverage Programme, I held a meeting with the Multi-Stakeholder Team led by Health CS Deborah_Mulongo, Medical Services PS Kimtai Harry, and CEO of the Council of Governors Mary Mwiti.
“We have identified all critical issues that we need to sort out for successful rollout, including an end-to-end comprehensive pilot in a selected county in the next 14 days. Healthcare is one of the 5 key pillars of the broad-based government, and President William Ruto is fully committed to delivering on his social contract with Kenyans in this regard,” Kuria stated.
