Kuria: County vocational centres to transition to NYS hubs
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has said that the government will partner with counties to revamp Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) with a view to enable them provide comprehensive infrastructural development.
According to the CS, selected individuals will undergo specialised training under the NYS, transitioning them into small-scale NYS hubs and digital centres. “Our strategy extends beyond mere training. Projects such as affordable housing, agricultural initiatives, and industrial parks require a skilled workforce. By integrating VTC graduates into the small-scale NYS hubs, we will ensure a pipeline of trained workers,” said Kuria.
He said the VTCs will also serve as recruitment centres for international opportunities, bridging gaps in countries like Saudi Arabia, Germany and Australia.
The CS is on a countrywide visit as part of the Government’s effort to forge a partnership with devolved units in NYS training. Kuria who visited various VTCs in Uasin Gishu County expressed optimism that with the new partnership with counties, the VCTs centres will get the necessary support and funding they have long yearned for.
Turning point
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii on his part acknowledged that as counties, they have been grappling with a lot of challenges in equipping the VTCs, which is a devolved function.
“The visit by the CS signifies a turning point for our vocational training institutions. Through this collaboration with the NYS, we anticipate improvements in infrastructure and much-needed support for our institutions,” said Bii.
