CS Kuria appoints his former running mate Faith Mwaura to plum state job

Former Kiambu deputy governor candidate Faith Mwaura has been appointed to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC).

Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, in a gazette notice dated June 15, 2023, appointed Mwaura to serve on the board of KDC for a period of three years.

“In exercise of the power conferred by section 6 (1) le) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act. the Cabinet Secretary for Investments. Trade and Industry appoints Faith Mwaura to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Development Corporation. for a period of three (3) years with effect from the 16th June, 2023.”

Mwaura replaces Mboche Waithaka whose appointment has been revoked.

Kenya Development Corporation Ltd is a Development Finance Institution established in 2020 to merge the operations of Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation, Tourism Finance Corporation and IDB Capital Limited.

KDC’s co-mandate is to promote sustainable socio-economic development by providing development finance, infrastructure finance, business support and advisory services to medium and large-scale industries, infrastructure projects and commercial undertakings in target sectors in Kenya and elsewhere.

Faith Mwaura political ambitions

Mwaura vied as CS Kuria’s running mate in the Kiambu gubernatorial race last year.

Kuria, who ran on a Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party ticket, lost to Kimani Wamatangi of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Wamatangi, then-Kiambu senator, garnered 348,371 votes to clinch the governor’s seat. Patrick Wainaina Wa Jungle finished second with 273,361 votes.

Outgoing governor James Nyoro garnered 99,562 votes while William Kabogo got 106,980 votes.

Kuria was among the last candidates with 24,512 votes.

The former CCK party leader was later picked to head the Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet docket following President William Ruto’s victory in the last general election.
