Kenyans who will not file their tax returns by June 30 risk losing their Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) pins.

In a Monday, May 3 circular to media houses, the taxman stated that those who did not file their tax returns without showing cause will lose their pins after the set 30-day grace period expires.

“Failure to file returns, unless cause is shown to the contrary, the Commissioner of Domestic Taxes shall have their personal identification numbers (PINs) de-registered and cancelled from the KRA system.” Part of the taxman’s statement claimed.

Already, more than 60,000 pins belonging to Kenyans have been earmarked for reregistration by KRA.

According to the taxman, the bulk of those who didn’t file their returns comprises of individuals with the remaining lot being filled by schools, companies and self help groups.

Kenyans were also encouraged to take advantage of the Voluntary Tax Disclosure programme and negotiate their mode of payment.

“Taxpayers are also encouraged to take advantage of the Voluntary Tax Disclosure Program and apply, disclose and pay their outstanding liability with a relief on interest and penalties,” KRA stated in part.
