KR throws out tenants from Nakuru buildings

At least 15 families in Nakuru county have been left homeless following forceful evictions by Kenya Railway Corporation (KRC). 

The Tuesday morning incident was a shock to many who claimed there was no prior notice of the eviction.

The families which included some former Kenya Railways employees said officials from the corporation arrived at their homes accompanied by a group of youths to force them out. 

Fredrick Mosomi, a former Station Master who worked for  KR for 30 years said despite retiring last year, he was yet to clear with the  parastatal, adding that his removal from the house is a big blow to the family especially during the pandemic. 

Traumatised

“We were ordered to leave the houses without any explanation. On my part I needed time to prepare myself before moving out, I have never failed to pay rent,” said Mosomi.

Another victim, Fridah Kambai, a widow, said she has lived at the house for nine years and was shocked as the corporation ordered her to vacate the house without any notice. 

“I was not informed that I should vacate the property until this morning when they started throwing my property out,” said Kambai. 

Eric Atuya, said that the incident had left his children traumatised.

Efforts to reach Kenya Railway management over the matter bore no fruit as no officer responded to our calls.
