K’Ogalo coy about Owusu’s plight as player seeks help
Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia have remained coy about the embarrassing situation with their Ghanaian player Jackson Owusu who is reportedly stranded at a Nairobi hotel.
The tough tackling former Asante Kotoko midfielder has been staying at Jilmizer Hotel in Nairobi’s Buru Buru estate for the past five months and has allegedly accrued bills worth $6,000 (Sh642,450).
Documents confiscated
His documents have also been confiscated which has made the situation worse.
However, the club management has remained cagey, drawing the ire of fans considering the playing unit of K’Ogalo has gone months without pay.
Gor Organising Secretary Judith Nyangi in a recent radio interview confirmed that the club was aware of the issue with the Ghanaian international but were seeking ways of resolving it.
“We know what Owusu’s case is and we will try our best to come with answers so that he does not feel abandoned.
Even if it means raising some money to bail him out because we all agree the club is in a difficult financial position. He is our player and will definitely give him support,” she said.
Owusu had told the press he was desperate as Gor chairman Ambrose Rachier had not contacted him.
Meanwhile, Gor Secretary General Ronald Ngala has urged more fans to register and subscribe for membership so as to grow the numbers.
Ngala told People Sport that Gor were keen to enlist at least 25,000 new members but called for aggressive support to make the brand more visible.
Need more support
“We need more support from grassroots and this can be achieved through serious membership drive. We would like to appeal even to older members to renew their membership and in the long run it would be beneficial to all of us,” said Ngala.
He urged even individual groups and selfless fans to help drive the recruitment agenda.
