Kiunjuri party’s offices raided as equipment, documents carted way
Property worth more than Sh3 million was destroyed after unknown people raided the offices of a political party associated with former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri yesterday.
The Service Party (TSP) secretary general Mwenda Makathimo blamed the attack on “political enemies.”
He told the press at the party headquarters on Matumbato Road Upper Hill that the aim of the attack was to silence the party from championing the interests of Kenyans.
“We hope this country is not being taken back to the days whereby political parties were intimidated to stop them from advancing their agenda or silence them from being the voice of the people,” said Makathimo.
He said the attackers carted away important equipment and documents including laptops, party seal, printers and hard disks during the raid.
“The intruders also burnt party registration forms that had recruitment data on them.
However, we want to state categorically that whoever is behind this can steal our computers but not our resolve to build the party to serve Kenyans.
They can steal our seal but not our zeal to move forward, can vandalise our offices but cannot stop our resolve and determination to be the voice of the people,” he added. Makathimo said police have launched investigations into the incident.
Kiunjuri recently accused the government of plotting to postpone the next general elections.
“There are systematic plans to extend the Jubilee administration’s term beyond August next year.
The politics surrounding the Building Bridges Initiative and the unprepared IEBC could be used as the basis to extend the term of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration and other elected leaders,” he indicated recently.
