Presidential hopeful Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi was om Saturday crowned a Bukusu elder.

Over 500 elders from Bukusu and other Luyhia sub-groups, who gathered at his Mbakalo village home, also endorsed him for the top seat at a function graced by Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua and Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana.

Elders from Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Busia and Vihiga counties said Mukhisa had a vast experience in leadership and that if elected he would transform and propel the country into greatness.

Led by the National chairman of the Babichachi clan of the Bukusu sub-tribe Mzee Wilson Misiko, the elders said Kituyi had what it takes to succeed President Uhuru.

“We have given him the blessings of the community and allowed him to seek the country’s top seat,” said Mzee Misiko.

Misiko also urged Kituyi to explain his agenda for the Western region and entire country.  In response, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development said he was honoured by the elders’ gesture.

“The respect I have been bestowed today by my people is very encouraging and I promise that I will not let them down.

My people who have been yearning to have their son get to State House,” he said.   He said he will work with Karua and Kibwana and come up with a manifesto that will unite the country.

“We have come up with a slogan called patriotic citizens that is slowly gaining momentum among many people,” he said.

Kituyi said Kenya had many good leaders that were neither corrupt nor selfish and who can take propel the country to the next level.

“We have recently been to Makueni and soon we shall be going to Mt Kenya under Martha Karua and walk across the nation looking for friends and like-minded people,” he said.

He promised to reach out to Amani National Congress chief Musalia Mudavadi, his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya to support in his campaign.

Other leaders

Speaking at the ceremony, Kibwana called on Kituyi to be patient, humble and inspirational in his bid.

“You will have to talk to other leaders from Western as you have been told by elders so that you have a strong backing from your home area,” he said.

He said the trio would walk together to popularise Kituyi, as many people do not know the work he has done across the world, especially when he was at UNACTAD that has elevated his status globally.

The Makueni county chief noted that Kituyi was an asset to the country as he can revamp the economy.

Karua said they had come together for the common good of Kenyans.  She urged Kenyans to embrace unity and elect leaders who will offer them proper services.

She said Kivutha and Kituyi have demonstrated that they can deliver adequate services and should be supported in their quests.
